The thing to remember, I think, is that a vampire that is denied blood does not fade to oblivion. They (apparently) go to a comatose state where they can only be revived by an offering of blood
At least that seems to be the classic. For Glorantha it would also be valid, I think, to have a vampire utterly cease to be if it is without blood for long enough. The traditional thing, I think, is that the body keeps the vampire around even when he hasn't got any soulstuff to power him left.
One has to remember, the vampire still has it's mind, it just hasn't got a soul. Also, according to the RQ-2 model, the the void inside is still the "shape and size" of the soul it used to have. The vampire can even feel pretty close to being alive, even when it is powered by stolen soulstuff.
