I believe this was discussed on one of the HQ lists a while back - a search of the archives might help.

Sory, don't know, but since practice quests are noted as a means of gaining magical powers, practice level seems possible.

As I understand it, the "teacher" goes through the quest where the deity demonstrates use of the power in question. The "pupils" go along on the quest as tag-along crowd-scene support, and join in with "doing" the feat.
I would assume that they're told how to do their part beforehand, yes.

I'd say that yes, they quest for each one, but that like so many things, this can be glossed over by "spend a HP and you get it". Some may be gained as part of their Devotion HQ, of course, and the rest added later.

The way I'd choose to play it, based purely on my own preferences, would be that they'd get the affinities at an unusually high level, and could then improvise whatever feats they fancied. They're children - I wouldn't give them knowledge beyond the norm, I'd give them an intuitive understanding of Death that short-cuts the whole process.
