had asked about
Subject: [Glorantha] Disciples, Feats and Heroquesting
and the preparation necessary for it.
Well, I want to share a bit that I discovered yesterday while working on the
Harmast novel.
Harmast has been working at an Orlanth temple.
"The work had many benefits. He ate well. He got new clothes from the temple,
which had been given to the priest as gifts. But most important, he learned
some magic.
"On Destor?s holy day the Orlanthi men visited Orlanth?s Hall and then went
out to fight ancient foes. Harmast was close to the center, close to Lardestor
[the priest] and the weaponthanes. He had learned the songs and the gestures
from the warriors, and when they fell upon their ancient gold-bearing enemies
Harmast saw how the ancient king Vingkot performed his marvelous Feats. Harmast
was ready, and he absorbed the magic to see in the dark, to strengthen his skin,
to help him cast a javelin and to sprint faster than a horse. His love work had
paved the way for his magic to flow, and it was easier this time."
So we see that he DID have to learn "the songs and the gestures" before going.
