For anyone giving support in a contest, follower or not - this would seem to add the idea that the "servant" takes damage even if they were hundreds of miles away at the time and had no idea there was anything going on.

Whether this is a good idea or not I'm not sure - the way I see it is "you try assassinating the boss, and you will regret it", with the implication that you may well want to. Works for me.
