I expect we will never be 100% clear. (YGWV after all.)

Annoyed? I rejected that as patently ridiculous in my Glorantha. :-) For me, IFWW is the Mortal contribution to the continuation of Glorantha. It is THE moment of the (unfortunately named) Man rune's triumph, if you will. It is, quite simply, the Mortals resisting annihilation.

It is every fyrdman on a wall refusing to step down. It is the last man on a bridge, holding back an onrushing tide to save those behind him.
It is every mother braving all for her children. It is holding your babe to your breast and singing a lullabye while the wind howls at the door.

It is complete understanding of your own impending doom and refusing to give in to Fear. It is that moment of realization that you are both all alone in the world and connected to all the rest of Life in the grand struggle to simply live. It is tapping into that essential truth that Life Will Out. The bravest thing to do in this world is to keep living.

For me, THAT is IFWW, and every culture that participated in it has everyone, male and female participate in their initiation.
