And I can call spirits from the vasty deep, but... Yes, they can "fight" them, but aside from heroic escapes, I don't recall there being any mechanism for any components whatsoever of said army surviving the experience.

Perhaps if you'd clarify what sort of playable experience you're looking to create (or rationalise), people might be able to provide more tailored advice than the current chorus of "skate 10W7 or die", correct though that might be from a Gloranthosimilitude perspective.
