[Glorantha] Demons of Glorantha

The computer game Dominions II has a very well written and comperehsive demonology that I think I will make use of for my Glorantha game. My sorcerer game, in the Janube river area, will need good source materials for demons and blood magic. Both of which I can find form Dom II (which I can heartily recommend for those interested in a really good fantasy strategy game)

Dominions is inspired in a large part by Ars Magica. The major demons are Fire demons and Ice demons (though there are lots of different types, including shadow demons, that are fitting for Glorantha).

I've been wondering about the hell(s) of Glorantha, and here are some of my current thoughts on the subject.

The fire demons are pretty apt, since the Sun was killed and sent to hell. The wonderhome of the trolls was flooded by fire and light, and this is a good mythical source for firy demons.

The Ice demons are propably also ok, but I think I'll change the element from Water to Darkness. These are the the original inhabitants of hell, that survived the invasion of the sun.

Which group should be the stronger one? In Dominions it is the fire demons, but I'm not so sure about Glorantha. Trolls, of course, are originally Darkness demons, and they have been driven from their homes.

Which group should be the stronger one? The firy ones, that are the enemies of trolls, or the Darkness demons (dehori) that are neutral, and sometimes even friendly?

The three greatest demons in Dominions aren't elementally aligned, and I think I'll make use of those for things like Cacodemon and Zorak Zoran.

PS. I use a 2d6 based RPG system with the same scale as Dominions uses, so I can make use of the statistics from the game. They are nicely written and well balanced. Received on Wed 02 Aug 2006 - 12:02:04 EEST
