I like to think of this in terms of Snakes and Ladders. Mystical religions are ladders, eladign you up towards enlightenment. Chaos is the snakes, sending you down to the bottom and oblivion. Glorantha is the boad. Gods such as Orlanth, the sea gods, Yelm, etc are gods of the board. They take you in neither direction but worshiping them keeps you in play (it's a very limited analogy).
