Cataphracts are the most "knightly" things that fit in my vision of Glorantha. Cavalry, for the most part is men on horses with spears, shields and some armour. Think Persians vs Greeks for the technology era.

I hate the RPG clishe of having everyting from stone age to late renaissance all mixed together, so I'm keeping my Glorantha tied to the late bronze age / early iron age boundary.

There are exceptions, like some mostali having steam tech and gunpowder, but that is "magic" for the rest of the world.

In my Gloranth, a sword means usually a shortsword, a sicle sword or parhaps something like a kopesh. Enchanted metals make it possible to create big cutting swords (the basic RPG "broadsword").

There are no longswords (bastard sword) or greatswords, since those came about as a response to Plate&Chain, and require very advanced forms of steel.

-Adept : who loves the look of the Lunar cavalry in the HQ book
