And hard to believe. In the real world, it seems only professional fighters had swords, because they are expensive and useful only for fighting. Daggers, spears, bows, javelins and wrestling seem more plausible for the general population, but not for the sub set of the population that becomes player characters. <<

As you pointed out earlier, this is probably a simplification, particularly when it comes to training the women as the Carmanians are highly patriarchal. The "everyone has a sword" is also probably a simplification, but I think I see the reason for it; the Carmanians are all descended from the conquering army that came from Fronela, so are all the descendents of the warrior class if not themselves actually members of it.
