I can't help thinking that we've been given the history as written by the victors. Both Empires have been described essentially as evil.

For example The EWF is a pyramid scheme which violently oppresses those, who aren't keen on joining and their teachings as portrayed, seem to have been false. I haven't seen anything about the openness implied by the Elemental Harmonists.
