I can understand that feeling.

I'm beginning to think describing the Lunar Field Colleges as military units is a bit misleading. They don't appear to be units of magicans who are organised to all do specific things like reconiasance, artillery support or whatever. What they are is a group of specialists who are trained to work together, thus providing a more powerful effect than they would individually. So while the Ordenviru may regard each field college as an interchangeable unit, in practice their abilities vary depending on the individual members. And when the members change the abilities do.
One example I've written up for the Whitewall project is Theogenes Aristole who's described on the Whitewall Wiki. Although written before ILH2 I've checked and there's nothing incompatable with it. I'm not sure if he's part of a field college. There aren't any stats but his best magical abilities will be about 10W2.
