I dunno; I quite like the idea that crude, ugly trolls - dismissed as baby-eating savages by all civilised people - actually have an ancient written tradition and literature that dates back to before Lhankhor Mhy was a twinkle in his father's eye.

(Although their earliest written work might well be a recipe for eating babies...)

Anyway, this is from RQ3's 'Elder Races' sourcebook:

"Trolls speak Darktongue, one of the oldest languages of Glorantha, and certainly the oldest written language. Written Darktongue must be carved into stone or metal, and can be read by feeling with one's fingers."

(Or, one presumes, with Darksense?)
