Not really, but my campaign is only played four or five times a year, on
average, usually on Bank Holiday weekends, and most of the intrigue, politics
or plotting is done by phone, post or, now that three of us are on-line, by
email.
This means that all the requests for information is done in fits and bursts,
winding up can be maximised for minimum cost, the GM (me) can lie through his
teeth and mislead the players without them seeing the huge grin plastered
over his face and so on. There is a great deal of scheming, planning for
HeroQuests, discussion of Myths, making alliances etc. I have even run small
HeroQuests over the phone - an hour or so of talking through the Quest
followed by days of recriminations afterwards.
What tends to happen is that any actual sessions are played with such a high
intensity that we can cover between a season and a year in a single weekend,
because all the groundwork has been done earlier.
The most difficult thing about this is the facy that it can take several days
to sort out something quite simple, whereas in a face-to-face campaign it
could be sorted out in ten minutes or so.
The easiest thing is that we do not need to roll dice very much - no rolling
Intrigue skill, but lots of bribing court officials or sending spies
everywhere. For a bunch of acknowledged powergamers and ruleplayers, we
probably spend less time poring over the rules and rolling dice than the
wishy-washiest of "rolepayers". However, when we do play and there is combat
(not that often, actually) the rules are interpreted loudly and with a
vengeance.
It certainly works for us.
