RQ Tournament at AVALONCON!
There will be a two-part RuneQuest tournament at this year's AVALONCON
in Hunt Valley, MD, at the Marriot's Hunt Valley Inn. The convention itself
runs from July 31st to August 4th; the RQ event will have two parts: the
first on Friday, 8/2 at 3:00pm, the second on Sunday, 8/4 at 9:00am. There
are no event fees, but there is a one-time entrance fee for the entire
convention. This fee decreases as the convention progresses.
Admission Rates: Entire Weekend: $35.00
Friday-Sunday: $30.00
Saturday-Sunday: $20.00
Sunday Only: $10.00
Please note that while spectators and children under 14 are admitted free,
spectators may not participate in any tournament and will be asked to leave
if the tournament becomes crowded.
The planned tournament is non-gloranthan, called "IN PTOLEMY'S SHADOW"
(code:RNQ) and is set in 1st century BC Alexandria. The first session on
Friday will be a hunt for clues while weaving a path through the intrigues of
the Ptolemaic court and the second session on Sunday will be climazed by a
rousing charoit race using AH's CIRCUS MAXIMUS rules. GM: John E. Boyle,
characters will be provided and there will be a prize provided by Avalon
Hill, if we have at least 8 players. The way I am playing it, players may
enter the tournament in either session, but those playing through the Friday
session will have a big lead in victory points. Also, fatalities may be high
in the Sunday part of the event.
Since this schedule leaves th GM free on Saturday, there will be a
continuous RQ demostration on Saturday in one of the free gaming areas; check
the message board in the Registration Area for details. Tentative
description: Time- 9:00am to 9:00pm, Gloranthan RQ, bring your own characters
or play one provided by GM. Title- "SLEEPING GODDESS" set in the city of Drom
in eastern Ralios at the start of the Hero Wars. Spectators welcome, BUT
registrants get preference and AH may ask spectators to leave if the
convention becomes crowded.
