Shamans & Sorcerors

Here's my opinions in the debate whether sorcerors or shamans are
better in handling spirits: A sorceror who specialize in such magic
might be more effective than the shaman in dealing with the few types
of spirits specializd in. But it would take him more effort to go there.
Not only would he need to learn the adequate skills but he would also
need to lock up a lot of POW in things like spell matrices powerful
enough to make the spells useable and binding enchantments (not having
a fetch to store them in). However enchantments have a tendency to survive
their makers and if some sort of sorcerous school or order was founded,
specializing in controling spirits, enough of these items might
accumulate over the years to allow sorcerors to handle these spirits with
a minimum of POW-expense. They would never have access to the wide range
of spirits a shaman has though.

Intelligent spirit would as a rule of thumb be more hostile to a sorceror
than to a shaman. A shaman is, at least in theory, a part of the magic
ecology of the spiritplane. Someone who makes communications between
spirits and the mundane plane easier and in some cases even possible.
A shaman might obtain the services of a spirit that is much more powerful
than he would ever be able to magically control if he approaches it in
the right manner and for a good reason. A sorceror is basically a mere
 predator on the spiritplane.

The main reason why Malkioni Wizards are bad at handling spirits, IMO,
is that it is culturally inappropriate, and maybe even illegal depending
on the sect involved. It would be similar to summoning demons in sects
 like the Rokari church.

 Yours,
 Jesper
