>Possible. But is there a necessary connection between Orlanth's Ring
>disappearing and Orlanth the god not "being free"? Did the Ring perhaps not
>disappear at some prior point in history?

There is precedent for this sort of thing in the last song of Horned
Ulf where Rolf Darkeye looks up to check the location of Orlanth's
Ring and sees the Twin Stars instead. The association with Lokaymadon's
lack of ability to take over the storm rune becomes obvious. The
critical weakness that afflicted the heathen god in fronela might
be explained if he was a storm god.

We can posit a similar dissappearance of Orlanth's ring when the God
Learners enslaved Bingista and caused no wind to blow in Dragon Pass
for two years until a settlement for peace was made. Of course when
Orlanth's Ring reappeared, not only did Orlanth defeat Zistor but a
Windless Typhoon wrecked havoc across the western lands.

So if Orlanth's Ring had vanished only to reappear in 1625 then it
must have occurred when Whitewall fell. I'm getting enarmoured of
this theory but more stronger evidence needs to be manufactured, er,
found.
