Bay leaves come from bay trees. The (Terran) bayberry is a different plant,
a temperate zone shrub with dark little berries growing directly along the
branches. The leaves and berries have a pleasant smell. The leaves could
be used for strewing on your longhouse floor, I suppose, but the principal
use of the bush is making candles or soap from the waxy berries.
