Phases of the Moon-
Once the searchlight model had been proposed, rather than
the "it's magical, and crescent everywhere", it crystallised
my ideas on to how it ought to work.
At the dark of the moon, a pulse of light rises up from the
Crater, igniting a glowing spot at the under pole. This
spreads up the face of the moon, covering the entire visible
disk. Three and a half days later, a spot of darkness
appears on the underside, and spreads similarly.
Another source-
I've just finished listening to the second part of the
new Radio 4 series about the Romans in Britain; the
story of this reluctantly Romanised island could be
plundered for the Lunars in Sartar
The obvious outcome of the Lunars as Commies model
(or, Ronald Wilson Agrathssaga)-
It's Argrath White Bull, ex-cowboy, who starts by freeing
Pavis, and gets carried along with momentum to drive
the occupiers out of Sartar. Acclaimed king, he hears
tales of an Empire long ago and no so far away. Inspired,
he requires his wise men to develop Dragon Wars technology
so he can outlaw the Evil Empire.
Meanwhile, a new Mask of Moonson is trying to tackle the
inherent economic contradictions of his empire, and cannot
manage that and at the same time match what he fears
Argrath's men will develop. The fringes of the empire
secede; and even in the Heartlands which still answer to
Glamour's sway, while there is some continuity of power,
the Red Cult falls in prestige and influence.
