Approvals, Seseine, +++

Tal Meta asks:
>How many supplements for RQ3 got crushed because he later
>changed his mind on certain points after giving authors the go-ahead
>based on their original synopsis?

I would guess probably very few. Also, approval of a synopsis, and
approval of what the authors actually write, is another matter entirely.

Peter Metcalfe:
>As for Seseine being chaotic, I think that only genertelan
>succubi are unambigiously tainted with chaos whereas for
>Pamaltela, many are not. Of course when the God Learners
>tried to delve into her mysteries, they met succubi and assumed
>the worst...

Actually, the earliest reference to Seseine in print (Wyrms Footnotes 9,
I think) has her very clearly on the side of chaos. I don't think this
has changed, or needs to.

Michael Raaterova's comments on the shortness of history were quite on
target IMO, at least for Prax. Few people in Prax know of a time when
Stormbull was not the pre-eminent anti-chaos god, and they are all the
most powerful shamans, pretty much. The presence of Waha's Spirits of Law
is one of the few hints of the previous historic reality, IMO.

Your comments on the mythologizing of Pavis were well-spoken as well.

Kevin Rose replying to me:
>>Although this is a simplistic approach, some of the principles are
>>already there. In other words, 5 people able to combine Disrupt into a
>>single spell doing 5d3 damage, have a more powerful effect than 5
>>separate Disrupt spells.

>I don't remember seeing this. The only way I can think of combining
>spells like this are wards or the RQ3 Errata sorcery multispell. Where

Hmm, either I was not clear, or this was taken out of context. Could also
have been relating something I said in a different post.

What I meant was, if you have a method whereby a number of mages can cast
their spells together, for a single, greater effect, you already have the
beginnings of a system of large-scale magical combat. I began work on
such a system, relying upon a new ritual skill I call Join (because
Combine got taken for use with Lunar Magic).

Sorry for any confusion I may have caused here.

Peter Maranci bravely, and rightly, says:
>In the old days, the Digest was a center of creativity too --
>hell, I went out and got Internet access just to subscribe.

As I noted to Peter privately, the problem here is that this is NOT
really the Gloranthan _Digest_ -- it is the old Gloranthan _Daily_ with a
different name. The Glorantha _Digest_ had articles and useful stuff. The
Glorantha _Daily_ was filled with a lot of discussion and philosophy.

When I first subscribed to the Glorantha Digest a year ago, I was
expecting the _Digest_, not the _Daily_. And, though I enjoy the _Daily_,
I would much prefer the _Digest_; I have said this to Shannon a couple of
times.

One reason for this change is, I think, due to the lack of published
gaming material. When we are given gaming material (Sun County, River of
Cradles, Dorastor), we create gaming material. When we are given
mythological and philosophical treatises (GRoY, Fortunate Succession,
Entekosiad), we respond with mythological and philosophical debates.

I second Peter's call for more articles and less philosophy, or for
separate lists. After all, the primary reason I finally gave in and
subscribed was to use the Digest as a source of material for The Book of
Drastic Resolutions. It is just my nature to love a good discussion, to
enjoy a good argument, and to get mad when people say things I think are
stupid. My New Years Resolution is, I think, to read more and talk less
here, and to try to post more useful stuff.

Cheers to All.
