I'm not so sure that they would argue about their faith so much.
The Exiles and the Locals speak different lingos and would not
get along very well out of sheer bloodymindedness. If an exile
has a choice of farmsteads to raid, he would be more likely to
raid a local's stead rather than a fellow exile's.

How about he goes into the Cleft in an attempt to loot it. He
comes out furious that there's nothing there and the locals
immmediately hail him as the Wolfbear?
