PELASKOS

The Fisherman, Male Culture Hero.
Venerated as the god of fishermen, the father of the Pelaskans and the te=
acher=0Aof island survival skills. Pelaskos is portrayed as a young man, =
often naked.=0AHe holds a net and a fish in his hands, and is often surro=
unded by statues of=0Athe Sacred Birds and Oyster Girl his spouse. Pelask=
os is important to=0Afishermen throughout Choralinthor Bay with local var=
iations in practices. The=0ALudoch do not venerate Pelaskos, but recognis=
e that he is important to their=0Ahumans.

Requirements
During the passage into adulthood clan males can be initiated into the cu=
lt of=0APelaskos simply by sacrificing a point of POW. Outsiders must sho=
w an=0Aunderstanding and willingness to follow the Laws of the Sea

The Shellfish Gatherer, Female Cultural Heroine.
The proud daughter of the Sea King and bride to Pelaskos the Fisher is=0A=
worshipped as the goddess of wives in the Islands. She was the first pers=
on to=0Adwell in the God Time, and taught her husband the secrets of the =
Islands after=0Aa lengthy courtship. She is portrayed as a young woman em=
erging from an oyster=0Ashell. She carries on her hip a pearl handled dag=
ger and in her hands holds=0Athe bounty of the sea shore. The High priest=
ess enacts the ritual of the=0AParade of Ripples upon Oyster Girls holy d=
ay. Statues of Oyster Girl are=0Aalways moist to the touch and are sculpt=
ed from mother of pearl.
