Firstly, thanks to Peter Metcalfe for his excellent critique of my more
speculative theories about ShangHsa and Godunya.
I have one minor quibble which is to do with Jaldon.
Peter:
<< Jaldon was far older than the Imperial Age. KoS calls him "a hero
from bygone ages" at the time of the sacking of Pavis and who was
I always thought of Jaldon as a reincarnating barbarian hero who reappears in
times of war, 'when the tribes are united'. Anyway, a hero from 'bygone ages
that no one can remember'. I don't think that he is seen between 620 (and
possibly earlier) and 890 as the tribes are not united and Prax is dominated
by Horse people and EWF monks. He is, according to KoS awakened by the Sable
Tribe, but according to Pavis chronology he was born in a Bison tent - since
he unifies tribes I see no reason for these facts to exclude each other.
Pavis chronolgy goes on to describe his Vision of perfect teeth, then his
adventures in the East. He comes back with a new name 'Goldentooth' and
re-establishes Waha's way; dedicated to combat and proof by combat or death.
He has gained some weird weapons (which sound a bit Eastern to me) and tatoos
that cannot be looked at and assorted other Hero type things. He then goes on
to conquer Pavis so he cannot have been cursed, at this point, never to
return to Prax (it seems to me anyway). I imagine the curse to be later one,
perhaps sent by some corrupt remnant of the EWF (like Delecti perhaps).
So, IMO, Jaldon was a Hero from the past, but he changed considerably in his
890 Pavis Sacking incarnation - both gaining powers and picking up a few
curses.
