How are they controled then ?
I think that the bulk of the Esrolian army is cheaply equipped and rather
I take the image of the Esrolian male soldier from the early armies of
poorly trained male spearmen. The Babesteer Gori are the Elites, who lead
the male units and form elite units. There are some groups of male
orlanthi, that form small warbands under the rule of the local queens
warleader, and propably humakti of both genders.
ancient Egypt. No armor but the large shield, and a spear and a dagger for
weapons. Heavy infantry units can have armor of hippopotamus or crocodile
hide and sturdier shields, made of the same, and parhaps maces or
swords. Axes are reserved mostly to the Babeester Gori.
BTW... I have always tought that the use of poleaxes in RQ was just an
unfortunate byproduct of the general medieval tech level in the wargear
(not bronze age at all). I have since done more studies into the matter
and found out that both the Chinise and the Europeans used a thing called
"daggeraxe, or poledagger" in early bronzeage. This is basically a long
pole, with a thin stabbing-blade attached where the blade of the poleaxe
would be. Curiously enough there have also been long (93cm) thin
"rapiers" used in Minos, in their early Bronze age.
So the medieval world didn't invent the rapier and the poleaxe, they were
reinvented.

I think I think... Therefore I think I am.
