Henrix:
<< The variation in size, excepting some (human controlled) breeds of dog, is
not "from housecat to jaguar" (RQ2). This was probably a consequence of the
fact that somebody gave them a SIZ of 1D6. A sort of reverse way of
describing a creature, first we
give it the numerical statistics, _then_ we describe it. Hopefully this is a
thing of the past. In HW:NB the only thing stated is that "the largest
alynxes are about the size of a large dog", which is much better. >>
AR will also state that the smallest alynxes are about the size of a
housecat.
Mikko:
<<The orlanthi creating breeds of Shadow Cats seriously diminishes their
dignity and mysteriousness in the game, at least for me. And the "mythic
explanation" of Yinkin's different kittens seems lame and artificial.>>
I would try and escape blame for this by pointing out that this was one
of the few bits of AR written directly by Greg, with minimal input from me.
But dammit, I happen to agree with him, and don't see the problem. It could
be that, aside from the murni, different breeds of alynx are kept by
different clans, so that the opportunities for interbreeding are less (and
alynx breeds are less distinct and pedigreed than RW 20C dogs). But, anyway,
if you don't like it, you are, of course, free not to use that part of AR.
Forward the glorious Red Army!
