Peter, I take your point about mixing theism and animism,
Of course, it belatedly occurs to me that there need not be
although given that ancestry is such an important part of
uz culture and a rather more direct one than simply knowing
your lineage, I would imagine that even 'civilised' trolls
would not cut themselves off from this contact.
any animism/theism conflict here. The spirits of uz
ancestors will be not in the Spirit World but KL's
Underworld - in the God World. This is the problem with
the world 'spirit', in that it now comes with specific and
rather rigid implications. Maybe we can call these 'troll
shadows'? To contact them, an uz theist 'simply' needs to
penetrate into the God World far enough that her ancestors
can hear her and come and meet her. So it would be a
ritual, with the aimbeing not to penetrate full the
Otherworld barrier to the Underworld (that would make it
too difficult) but get far enough to call your ancestors'
shadows (2w2? - remember, this will generally be a ritual
with supporters).
Bye,
Mark
