It doesn't. 'Peter' is the latinisation of 'Kepha' which meant rock and
was the Apostle's nickname. Simon called Peter is how he's referred to
in modern translations.
Always amuses me that the first Pope was called 'Rocky'. "Hey, you Roman
guys! You think you're tough huh? Well, me an my buddy Jesus will see to
you!"
