Tattoos

I have just worked at a Tattoo convention (Skin pictures not the military marching bands) and I was wondering about Orlanthi Tattoos. I was talking to a couple of Borneo Headhunter Tribesmen (really!) who use anicent technics for tattooing. Alot of the designs have special significant meaning and are a form of status symbol. Both front shoulders are tattooed with a life *rune* when they are initiated warriors which looks like a double spiral storm/air rune. Further tattoos are drawn when they increase in status/rank.

With RQ#3 Tattoos were used as foci for spirit/battle magic which made for interesting looking characters. Now with the Orlanthi gaining feats what use are the Tattoos? Would they be used as Ritual Symbols, rank markers, religious labels, signs of devotional commitment or all the above? Or could they be used as markers everytime a warrior gains a feat?
