Yelmalio is not a standardized cult. The cultic description for him is really valid only for Sun County while Dragon Pass will have a lot more Heortling elements (and Balazar different altogether).

Not really a mythic reason. The geases are a form of asceticism, a withdrawal from the world, and the gift is the resulting benefit. I don't think the Yelmalions think it's a case as you act like _this_, you get _that_. Instead they view the "random" nature of the gift/geases as being what Yelmalio deciding what is best for the initiate. Obeying the geas and receiving the gift are both meant to help him become a better Yelmalion.

Yelmalio is actually an old cult. In Prax, it's been there since the Second Age.
