Heres a take on the death -> life thing, done by Rage Against The
Machine. RATM is heavily informed, politically speaking, by the
plight of mesoamericans and their historic culture, and uses a lot of
imagery that might make their lyrics slightly appropriate:
Here Zak is talking about Mexico, and although the name in the track is "Mariah" he pronounces it like "Maya".
"These are her mountains and skies and she radiates...
And through history's rivers of blood she regenerates...
And like tha sun disappears only to reappear
Maria [or "Maya"]
Shes eternally here
Her time is near
Never conquered but here"
In a track called "Producer":
"Earth shares what Earth receives
And now only blood brings life
A tiller bring life, producer bring life
Protector bring life, soiled hands bring life"
