Odayla's importance was known a bit earlier than the Chaos Age but he was the 'best hunter' particularly when Orlanth (and his various aspects and roles) had left on his quest.

I'm not sure how a disciple ties into the game-speak myself. I'd be inclined to say they might learn magic more cheaply -- say at 2 points for a +1 affinty or something like that, as well as other in-cult kudos.
