This is a poor example. As you point out this is _already_ a broad ability. The question of bonuses to feats is separate from the broad/narrow ability one. I'm sympathetic to the feat bonus idea, but it does leave the +17 swordhelp problem (so might need clumsy further rules tweaks such as "no more than +5 in any feat").
If I had to introduce broad abilities I'd prefer to use the 3HP cost to give a +1 to any non-magic keyword (as it involves virtually no new rules).
