Yep, but how do I get these bloody marks off my hand?

(Please, no more refs to River of Cradles: if that's the RQ
Renaissance, I'll stay in the Dark Ages thanks!)

As for the Companion doing more harm than good, I don't think
lots of rules supplements have harmed Vampire, GURPS, AD&D,
Rollmaster etc. Most of the more successful games seem to have
lots of rules packs. In fact only Hero seems to be an exception,
but I think that's because the designers don't accept that their
base rules aren't universally applicable.

One thing I've realized from this mailing list is not only does
no-one seem to play the standard RQIII rules, but there doesn't
seem to be very much of a consensus as to what people don't like,
outside of a general dislike of the fatigue rules: some people
even like the sorcery rules (bizarre!). A collection of optional
rules might be a fairly useful way of collecting the best of the
house rules that the many players use. I'm not advocating that
RQIV be abandoned, but I think it needs a longer gestation period,
and it may need more optional rules than RQIII had or the house
rules will start spawning again. Of course, if and when the latest
draft returns from AH I may change my mind.
