Messy.
Imagine a character having say 75% in spear and shield, and 60% in rapier
and main gauche, fighting now with rapier and shield. At which skill?
Or someone having to spend time for shield each time when he wants to
improve axe and shield, mace and shield and sword and shield.
Not what I see as lite.
