The reason why I prefer the original system is that I feel it encourages
better mental arithmetic. Rather than just looking for numbers on dice
you are actually using precentages.
As someone who encountered role playing at the age of eleven, and now has
a compartively innumerate step-son who is only interested in very simple
war games, I recognise the benefits that learning and playing a role
playing game can bring.
Keep it simple, keep it arithmetic, is my advice.
