Heh. I allow any edged hand weapon to have Fireblade cast on it. IMO, the flames run up and down the _edge_ of the blade, not the entire blade BUT I also tell the player to keep in mind just how far away from the flames his hand will be. I then allocate damage to that hand accordingly.
Greatswords have a nice, long hilt. Dirks don't.
