I find such a distinction a very odd one to make for the Heortlings. All politics within the clan are kin and family politics, and a good deal of extra-clan dealings (the politics of marriage and alliance) are also family based. Political power is pursued through family leadership and select patronage, even economic security has a very strong kin component.
