Not sure you're comparing like with like, here.
In any figures I provide, "children" are stated to be aged under 15. Now, I'd prefer this figure to be 33%; Thunder Rebels says it's 50%.
In the US Census figures (per the PDF summary of general demographic characteristics for 2000):
21.4% are aged under 15. 25.7% are aged under 18. 30.0% are aged under 21.
Those extra six years make one *heck* of a difference.
