Penny, Silver - general terms used for silver coin, regardless of
issue. The silver penny weight dates back to the Imperial Age and was
the weight used by the Jrusteli traders. A silver penny weighs
approximately 5 grams and is about three times the size (and value) of
a medieval denarius (penny) - making it pretty close to the value of a
medieval groat (tuppence). About 100 of these pennies make a pound of
silver.
