While I can't answer your question, here's a little snippet that may or may not add something:

"Events of My Life
by Minaryth Blue, son of Renatha Swanrobe, of the Hiording clan
...
1606 — Mother's swan robe stolen. We move to Clearwine."

About all I can conclude from that is that at least one (female) member of the Hiording had a swan robe in the late 1500s, and it was rare enough that she took her name from it.
