Male Vingans are quite possible. Imagine a worshipper of Nandan, she has a number of children, whether adopted, from her husband's previous marriage or magically born. Her husband and children are killed. What does she do? Does she abandon her Nandan ways and go back to Orlanth or does she take the Ernaldan route and join Vinga?

She would be seen as a Vingan, even though she is male. People would think of her as being odd, as she was Vingan and also as she was Nandan, but they would accept her without a problem. After avenging her loss, she could even go back to being a good Nandan and find a new husband.

Sex, the physical act, has little to do with defining roles. Gender is more appropriate for defining roles, but Orlanthi society has Vingans, Nandans and the like to allow cross-gender roles.
