  Wisteria and kudzu are capable of clearing large areas of forest over the course of several years. There's a clearing just behind the house which is just stumps and a thick, tangled coat of kudzu where there used to be a pine grove.

As I recall, a kudzu-like plant, Dokal's Vine, is cultivated by the Wenelians on occasion to help rotect them against the elves. In exchange for his protection during the Great Dark, the humble vine agreed to serve his decendants. Those clans who are not allowed to bring axe or fire against the forest are keen worshippers of this spirit.
