I studied this subject via martial arts and this view seems wrong. You trancend or you don't, its not soemthing that you can activate, but merely the final step (AFAIK) on the path to enlightenment that comes via your spiritual efforts.

For example, and I am stretching my memory here, Siddartha was sitting under a tree for 9 year(?) when he suddenly trancended. It just happened at the right time I guess.

Greg's the expert I suspect, and the above might be baloney without my sources to check.
